As expected, Apple was continuing the transition of its M1 chip to other Apple products. Having replaced the old 21.5-inch iMac with the same M1 chip used in the 2020 Macbook Air, it’s only natural to assume that the same trend would continue to replace the intel based 27-inch iMac with M1 Pro/Max chip.

But wait… it didn’t happen.

Instead, what Apple released was a “mini” desktop tower and a 27-inch Monitor. It’s like saying, “Sorry guys, we built something way more powerful than you thought, and there’s nothing in between, i.e. no M1 variant of 27-inch iMac”.

Will the M1 variant of the 27-inch iMac be made in the future? Unlikely, as mentioned during the keynote event:

And they (Mac Studio and Studio Display) join the rest of our incredible Mac lineup with Apple silicon, making our transition nearly complete with just ONE MORE product to go — Mac Pro
